HIDDEN GEMS: KENT & STOWE ‘EVERSHARP’ SECATEURS – Huntingdon, England
The Heritage: While the vast majority of Kent & Stowe’s expansive catalogue is manufactured overseas, the brand made a significant strategic move to re-shore the production of its flagship cutting range: the Eversharp line represents a distinct departure from mass-market sourcing, engineered and manufactured entirely within the UK to challenge the dominance of high-end continental brands.
The Verdict: Only the Eversharp range - including the All Purpose (Bypass), Hard Wood (Anvil) and Lite model - is manufactured in the UK. The brand’s broader collection of stainless steel spades, forks and the ‘Capability’ range are designed in Britain but fabricated elsewhere. From a sustainability perspective, the Eversharp tools are built for a multi-decade lifecycle rather than seasonal replacement. They utilise high-carbon steel blades treated with AlCrOna Pro, an aerospace-grade plasma coating that Kent & Stowe claim renders the cutting edge 50 times harder than standard blades and significantly more resistant to rust and sap. By manufacturing domestically, Kent & Stowe drastically reduces the freight-related carbon emissions of its premium line while working to ensure that critical components, such as replacement blades and springs, are kept in local stock to prevent the throwaway culture of cheaper alternatives.
