The Heritage: Headquartered in Suffolk, My Overalls was born out of sheer practical necessity. While project-managing the renovation of a Victorian property, founder Vivienne Hegarty adopted a standard pair of white bib-and-brace overalls as her daily uniform. Recognising the inherent comfort and utility of the garment, but finding standard workwear lacking in tailored fit and fabric quality, she set out to redesign the overall for the modern wardrobe. Production was established in a Manchester garment workshop boasting over a century of textile manufacturing expertise.
The Verdict: My Overalls successfully refines a utilitarian staple into a garment of everyday, practical luxury. You won’t find those thin, restrictive fabrics common to fast-fashion dungarees but instead premium, heavy-weight 100% cotton twill. The tailoring is carefully considered to allow for ease of movement but without appearing shapeless. A signature design feature is the reinforced front pouch pocket and it’s this which removes the need for a bag, thus allowing florists, artists and gardeners to carry tools or other items securely. It’s a superb piece of functional UK design engineered for durability and comfort.
