LINWOODS HEALTH FOODS - Armagh, Northern Ireland
The Heritage: Established in 1965 by the Woods family, Linwoods has evolved from a local shop into a specialist in nutritional processing. Now in its third generation of family leadership, the company operates a dedicated cold milling and blending facility in County Armagh, Northern Ireland.
The Verdict: A technical leader in plant-based nutrition with a clear commitment to domestic processing. While a caveat is required - raw ingredients such as chia and hemp are of necessity globally sourced from optimal climates - every seed is cold-milled and blended on-site in Armagh. This proprietary cold milling process is a significant engineering advantage over mass-produced, heat-treated alternatives, as it prevents the delicate oils from oxidising, thereby preserving the full nutritional profile and extending the shelf life of the product without the need for synthetic preservatives. From a sustainability perspective, the company is pursuing a 30% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and reports that it prioritises Soil Association certified organic materials to reduce chemical impact.
Core Products: Cold-milled flaxseed, chia blends and overnight oats.
