The Heritage: Founded in 1840, Joseph Marples (not to be confused with the mass-market "Marples" brand), Joseph Marples is a fifth-generation family firm and one of Sheffield’s oldest surviving joinery tool manufacturers. Originating during a period when several related 'Marples' families operated out of the city, the company has remarkably remained within the exact same family for over 180 years, steered by a continuous succession of sons named Joseph. While mass-market equivalents have shifted almost entirely to moulded plastics and extruded aluminium, Marples continues to handcraft exquisite tools using sustainably sourced Rosewood, European Beech and solid brass.
