LITTLE GREENE - Manchester, England
The Heritage: Taking its name from an 18th-century hamlet and dye works on the outskirts of Manchester, Little Greene is an independent, family-run UK paint and wallpaper manufacturer. While their headquarters are firmly rooted in Manchester's historic industrial heartland, the physical manufacturing of their paint takes place in their own dedicated factory nestled in the foothills of Snowdonia in North Wales.
The Verdict: Little Greene is the only British paint manufacturer still producing a complete range of traditional and modern finishes entirely in-house. They consciously reject mass production, choosing to manufacture in small batches where ingredients are measured in kilograms rather than tonnes, and every sample pot is still poured by hand. Their environmental credentials are exceptional, for example their water-based paints have the industry's lowest VOC content, their oil-based paints are formulated using sustainable vegetable oils and they tint their paints to order to eliminate waste. With heavily pigmented formulas and historic colour matches drawn from national archives, they provide an unmatched depth of colour for restoration and contemporary interiors alike.
Core Products: Highly pigmented, eco-friendly water-based and oil-based interior and exterior paints, historic colour archive palettes and luxury wallpapers crafted using traditional surface-printing techniques.
