BARBER WILSONS & CO – Wood Green, London, England
The Heritage: Founded in 1890, Barber Wilsons & Co. (often affectionately known in the trade as Barwil) is the oldest independent water fittings manufacturer in the United Kingdom. Still family-owned and operating out of London, they have steadfastly resisted the industry trend of outsourcing casting and assembly overseas. Their unwavering commitment to traditional UK engineering and quality has earned them a Royal Warrant, having famously supplied Buckingham Palace and the Savoy Hotel, amongst others.
The Verdict: While most competitor contemporary taps are routinely made of cheap alloys with sealed, unrepairable plastic cartridges, Barber Wilsons machines their fittings from heavy, solid brass and, precisely because they are engineered using traditional mechanics (or high-end ceramic discs), they are fully serviceable and designed to last for generations. For restoration projects, they offer their fixtures in raw, unlacquered brass that will naturally tarnish and develop a beautiful, authentic patina over time, alongside classic nickel, chrome and gold.
Core Products: Traditional 1890s crosshead bath and basin pillar taps, exposed thermostatic shower mixers, kitchen bridge mixers and their world famous geometric 1930s 'Mastercraft' Art Deco range.
